There Are No Shortcuts

I always have had a passion for programming it seems, thinking back as a kid I remember asking my parents for a Commodore 64, an ancient computer back in the day which had a keyboard you can attach to your TV.  Along with the instructions was a booklet full of programs, when you enter the programs in correctly, it caused moving shapes (made up of X’s and O’s) to appear on the screen.  I thought this was the coolest thing ever, I completed the book of programs within a weekend timeframe.  From that moment, I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up, Computers – just wasn’t sure at the time what to do with Computers exactly.  Later on in middle school, during a career counseling event we had an assignment to research and determine three careers we would be interested in and that’s when I discovered Software Development and much later than that, I realized all the programs I had written as a kid was in fact QBASIC on a DOS platform.   From there, I had COBOL and PASCAL classes in high school, then senior year I had the opportunity to work part time at Harris Bank and where I was assigned to work in the Library, coincidently in the Software Development department which allowed me to speak with some of the programmers and hence they became my mentors in the field, it was a great experience.  It seems I was definitely full-filling my destiny of becoming a Software Developer, I completed my Bachelors of Computer Science at DeVry, Chicago and landed my first opportunity in my career and continued working in field with some well-known organizations such as the American Bar Association, Bristol-Meyers Squib and Bank of America to name a few. I even became a teacher for few semesters at West-wood college teaching HTML/Dreamweaver/JavaScript. I’m always willing to learn the latest advances in the field, of which is never-ending in the Software Development world, it makes for an exciting career to be a part of, as there’s never a dull moment.
