As an IT professional Robert’s role with DiscoverTec is to assist in the design, maintenance, upkeep, and support of our overall hosted and web infrastructure environment including all server, LAN/WAN hardware, and software within. In addition to our environments he also assists in the support maintenance and upkeep of our managed services clients. Basically he’s our environment guy and also likes nature.

Robert is a native of Jacksonville, FL, graduating high school from Sandalwood High School in 1995. He attended the University of North Florida where he received his Bachelor in Science degree in Computer and Information Systems. He immediately began his career in Information Technology with Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation (later to become RockTenn) as a LAN Administrator for one of their paper mills here in Jacksonville. During his employment with Smurfit-Stone he held several other roles in IT including systems security administrator, IT project manager, and Sr. Network Engineer.
Being from the manufacturing environment he assisted heavily in design and deployment of wireless infrastructure as well as process network architecture and design as it pertains to process automation. He comes from a strong Cisco network design/engineer background and has been in the IT industry for 15 years. He is currently pursuing his first Microsoft certification to become a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).
In his time off he is an avid offshore fisherman and Coast Guard certified boat captain spending his time on the open ocean and loves clay and skeet shooting. He is a fitness enthusiast and on occasion competes in sprint distance triathlons and distance running races.
How do you explain your job to people who know very little about the Internet?
I typically ask people what they do for a living or about their interest and explain my job duties or functionality in a means that relates to that particular individual.

Michael Arrington, founder and editor of TechCrunch. A great resource for checking out the latest in technology news.
What unique quality do you possess that you believe makes you good at your job?
I have patience. This is a must have in the field of IT.
What is your favorite thing about the Suite 400 space?
Our 120 projection screen, HD projector, and sound system … it’s awesome for great movies.
Tell us one unique fact about your hometown, the place your family is originally from or a place you have lived in over the years.
Growing up in Jacksonville, you don’t find many people who are originally from here. I remember when JTB had a toll booth and St. Johns Bluff was a dirt road.
